Breakfast insulin – 8 units of Lantus at 6:45 am, 0 units of Novorapid ( I wanted to see the effect of the lower post run BGL on my breakfast ).

Lunch – 50 grams of steak and 100 grams of Cheese.
Lunch BGL – 8.3 mmol/L at 11:55 pm
Lunch insulin – 3 units of Novorapid as a correction for the 8.3 mmol/L.

Dinner – 2 x pieces of chicken and salad
Dinner BGL – 5.8 mmol/L at 6:00 pm
Dinner Insulin – nil ( I wanted to see the effect of this morning’s run on my post dinner BGL ).

Bedtime BGL – 9.7 mmol/L at 8:50 pm
Bedtime insulin – 5 units of Novorapid to cover the Neoglucogensis from the chicken. The chicken still raised my BGL but not as much as usual.

Day 13

Well I have had a couple of very busy days with my granddaughters. It takes a lot of energy to keep grandchildren occupied.

Post-run BGL – 11.7 mmol/L at 9:25 am – Post run BGLs are back to where they started. It doesn’t take much for all the good work to be undone.

Breakfast – 5 pieces of streaky bacon and 3 eggs fried in Lard.
Breakfast insulin – 8 units of Lantus at 9:45 am, 6 units of Novorapid ( 4 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the bacon and 2 as a correction for the 11.7 ).

Lunch – 200 grams of strawberries and 100 grams of whipped cream.
Lunch BGL – 3.6 mmol/L at 12:25 pm
Lunch insulin – Nil

Dinner – 3 x pieces of sirloin steak and salad
Dinner BGL – 7.5 mmol/L at 7:00 pm
Dinner Insulin – nil ( I got side tracked and forgot to take any insulin ).

Bedtime insulin – 8 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the steak. I should know by now that steak raises my BGL.

Day 12

28-11-2013

No run Today. I got up and dressed at 4:30 am, got out the door and down the road a bit, then realised I had a blister on my toe. Every time my right foot hit the ground the blister hurt enough to make me hop about. So I turned around and walked back home. It was too early to stay up so I went back to bed. I should have stayed up because when I woke up later I felt terrible.

Lunch – 60 grams of Danish Salami, 100 grams of steak and 60 grams of tasty cheese.
Lunch BGL – 7.5 mmol/L at 12:15 pm

Dinner – KFC Chicken and chips ( We were celebrating my youngest daughter’s 18th birthday ).

Bedtime BGL – 9.0 mmol/L at 9:45 pm

Bedtime insulin – 6 units of Novorapid to cover the continued slow release of the chips. I always do a split dose with KFC and Chips.

Note :- No run tomorrow or Saturday morning as I have my granddaughters staying and one of them sleeps in our bedroom. The alarm going off at 4:30 would wake her and that would not please my wife or my eldest daughter.

Day 11

Usually I would miss running on Wednesday mornings because of my scheduled business meeting but I decided today that I had some missed runs to catch up on.

Today’s run was the full circuit with any additional exercises to save time.

Post-run BGL – 8.5 mmol/L at 6:15 am – Post run BGLs are back to where they started.

Breakfast – 5 pieces of streaky bacon and 3 eggs fried in Lard.
Breakfast insulin – 8 units of Lantus at 7:00 am, 3 units of Novorapid ( 1 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the bacon and 2 as a correction for the 8.5 ).

Lunch – 100 grams of cold Chipolata sausage and 100 grams of tasty cheese.
Lunch BGL – 5.7 mmol/L at 11:55 am
Lunch insulin – Nil

Dinner – 2 x pieces of rump steak, carrots, broccoli and beans
Dinner BGL – 6.3 mmol/L at 6:05 pm
Dinner Insulin – 5 units of Novorapid, ( 1 to cover the carrots and 4 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the steak ).

Day 10

Well, what can be said about the last few days. I had a couple of late nights that threw my morning training schedule out the window and motivationally it was very hard to recover from that. However I bit the bullet as they say and got up for a run this morning.

Breakfast – 5 pieces of streaky bacon and 3 eggs fried in Lard.
Breakfast insulin – 8 units of Lantus at 7:00 am, 4 units of Novorapid ( 2 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the bacon and 2 as a correction for the 10.8 ).

Lunch – 100 grams of cold Chipolata sausage and 100 grams of tasty cheese.
Lunch BGL – 4.9 mmol/L at 11:55 am

Dinner – 2 x Chicken Drumsticks, carrots, broccoli and beans

Bedtime insulin – 3 to cover the continued Neoglucogensis from the chicken. I have noticed that chicken can really raise my BGL which is unusual for a white meat.

Post-run BGL – 11.6 mmol/L at 6:30 am – A higher BGL post run is to be expected for the second week. It takes a while for the body adjust to exercise and diminish the fight or flight response. You will note that this Monday’s post run BGL is less than last Monday’s post run BGL.

Breakfast – 5 pieces of streaky bacon and 3 eggs fried in Lard.
Breakfast insulin – 8 units of Lantus at 7:00 am, 7 units of Novorapid ( 4 as a correction for the 11.6 and 3 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the bacon ).

No run Today. It is Payday weekend which means grocery shopping. Lots of driving and walking around supermarket aisles.

Lunch BGL – 6.8 mmol/L at 1:40 pm
Lunch insulin – 3 units of Novorapid ( 3 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the pork crackling ).

Dinner – Chicken and salad.
Dinner BGL – 13.1 mmol/L at 6:15 pm, I had a couple of beers before dinner which is why my pre-dinner GBL was higher.
Dinner Insulin – 10 units of Novorapid, 6 to cover the chicken and 4 as a correction for the high BGL.

No run Today. I have a work meeting at 8:00am which means I would have to get up at 3:30 am for my run.
I am not quite ready to be getting up that early for a run. That will come later in the training schedule.
So an unexpected sleep in.

Dinner – Beef Stroganoff, carrots and beans
Dinner BGL – 7.8 mmol/L at 7:00 pm, I had a beer before leaving work this after which is why my pre-dinner GBL was higher.
Dinner Insulin – 6 units of Novorapid, 4 to cover the Beef Stroganoff and 2 to cover the carrots.

I also helped my daughter with moving house this evening after dinner. This involved lifting her fridge, some cabinets and a set of bunks.
