Day 1

11-11-2013
I have decided to record my pre-run insulin status as well because I have been having some discussions about exercise and insulin on Facebook with other Type 1’s. Hopefully this will emphasize my position and the affects of exercise and insulin.

Pre-Run – 04:45 am
Insulin status – last lantus 7:00 am 10/11/2013, last novorapid 6:30 pm 10/11/2013

Pre-run BGL – 7.0 mmol/L at 04:50 am

Distance run 8 km with the addition of 12 chin-ups.
I run a loop that includes a park with an exercise circuit. I will be including Chin Ups and Push Ups as part of my training regime.

Post-run BGL – 14.5 mmol/L at 6:30 am – A higher BGL post run is to be expected for the first week. It takes a while for the body adjust to exercise and diminish the fight or flight response.

Breakfast – 6 strips of streaky bacon and 3 eggs fried in Lard.
Breakfast insulin – 8 units of Lantus at 7:00 am, 10 units of Novorapid ( 8 as a correction for the 14.5 and 2 to cover the Neoglucogensis from the bacon ).

Lunch – 60 grams of Danish Salami and 40 grams of fried steak.
Lunch BGL – 4.1 mmol/L at 12:05 pm
Lunch insulin – Nil

Dinner – Mince bolognais, carrots, broccoli and beans
Dinner BGL – 8.0 mmol/L at 8:30 pm
Dinner Insulin – 8 units of Novorapid, 2 as a correction for the 8.0 and 6 to cover the Mince bolognais.

Bedtime BGL – 10.3 mmol/L at 9:15 pm
Bedtime insulin – 4 units of Novorapid as a correction for under estimating dinner.

And So It Begins

Sunday 10/11/2013

I am starting training for the 50th Rotorua Marathon which takes place on Saturday 3rd May 2014. I have tried and failed at the Rotorua Marathon previously and also completed the Rotorua 1/2 Marathon.

I feel that running the 50th anniversary Rotorua Marathon is an achievable goal.

Training starts tomorrow morning. I will post each day details of my training runs along with my Blood Glucose Levels before and after, and details of my training diet.

Feel free to follow along and offer criticism or support.

Thanks,
Bruce White
